Hezbollah: War report will corner Olmert, make him lose credibility

The Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah said Wednesday that the government-appointed Winograd commission of inquiry into the Second Lebanon War has caused Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to lose more credibility than he already has.

"The Winograd report will further corner Olmert and put more pressure on him and will make him lose the two percent left of credibilty in front of his people," said Hezbollah MP Hussein Haj Hassan.

Hezbollah said it expected Olmert to face the problems over the final conclusions of the report.

Hassdan said that the report would cause a "big problem inside Israel between the politicians and the army."

He added: "In reality, we have to tell the Israeli public at the end - with or without the Winograd report - that Hezbollah won the battles against the strongest army in the region in July 2006."

When the interim report came out last May, Hezbollah officials were quick to view its findings as evidence that Israel lost the war.

"The report confirmed the inability of the Israeli political and military leadership to take the appropriate decision to confront Hezbollah during the summer war," said Sheik Hassan Ezzeddine, Hezbollah's most senior political officer in southern Lebanon.
