Jerusalem officials prepared Monday for snowfall predicted to begin later in the week, as as he body of a 50-year-old homeless man who died of hypothermia was found Monday morning on the streets of south Tel Aviv.

The man was the sixth person to die in the current cold snap in the past two weeks, and the fourth homeless victim.

In Jerusalem, the spokesman of the Winograd inquiry panel into the failures of the Second Lebanon War said that the commission had contacted city officials to make certain that the snow, forecast to begin Tuesday night and continue through Wednesday, would not interfere with the scheduled release of the panel's report on Wednesday evening.

City officials assured the panel that there would be no disruption of the schedule, and that roads would be kept open such that the large number of journalists expected would be able to attend.

Cold claims 6 in 10 days
Ten days ago, a 65-year-old man from Rishon Letzion was found frozen to death in the street. Three days earlier, a homeless woman died from the cold while sleeping on a bench in Bat Yam.

On the same day, an eight-year-old Bedouin girl died in an unrecognized village in the Negev, the day after a 78-year-old woman from Be'er Sheva and a 36-year-old homeless man died of hypothermia, at the entrance of a locked shelter in Holon.

Two more homeless people died on Sunday, when a fire broke out in an abandoned building in Rishon Lezion. Police suspect that the two died in an attempt to start a fire in order to warm themselves.
