Palestinians: IDF troops kill stone-throwing teenager near Hebron

A Palestinian teenager was killed Friday by Israel Defense Forces troops during a raid in a village near the West Bank city of Hebron, hospital officials said.

Witnesses said troops opened fire at local residents who hurled rocks at troops in the village, killing the teenager.

An IDF spokesman said troops had initially used non-lethal riot dispersal means but resorted to live fire at the lower bodies of some demonstrators when they endangered the troops by throwing stones and large building blocks at them.

At least four Hamas militants were killed by two Israel Air Force strikes in the Rafah area of southern Gaza late Thursday, Israeli and Palestinian officials said Friday.

Israeli security officials said the militants belonged to a Hamas cell preparing to carry out a terror attack in Israel.

They said Mohammed Abu Hareb, the most senior of the militants killed, had been coordinating Qassam rocket fire on Sderot and was involved in attacks in the Rafah area.

Hamas said another top operative was also killed in the strikes, which destroyed the car in which two of the militants were traveling.

Israel Radio reported that the dead men had been carrying guns and knives.
