Tennis / Australian Open / Shahar Peer advances to women's doubles semifinals

After her third-round exit in the singles' tournament, Israeli tennis player Shahar Peer reached the semifinals of the Australian Open doubles' competition with her Belarusian teammate Victoria Azarenka.

The two easily beat Janette Husrova of Slovakia and Flavia Pennetta of Italy 6-1, 6-1, and this morning they will face China's Yan Zi and Jie Zheng, who advanced to the semifinals after beating the strong Venus and Serena Williams duo in the previous round.

Israeli tennis players Andy Ram and Yoni Erlich, ranked eighth in the men's doubles, were due to play in the quarter finals against the French team of Marc Giquel and Fabrice Santoro.

Meanwhile, Israeli player Chen Astruho suffered a double defeat, losing in the second round of the girls' tournament to the second-seed, Ksenia Lykina of Russia, as well as in the second round of the girls' doubles tourney.
