Justice Minister Daniel Friedmann on Tuesday visited the Silver youth village near Ashkelon, to which some evacuees from Gaza Strip settlements have been relocated.

During the visit, Hof Ashkelon Regional Council Head Yair Farjoun urged Friedmann to "bring the evacuees back to Israeli normality" by erasing from their criminal record offenses they committed during 2005 protests against the disengagement from the Gaza Strip, when many of them defied IDF decrees that declared Gaza settlements a closed military zone.

According to government figures, at least 600 people have faced difficulties finding employment due to their criminal record.

In response, Friedmann asked Farjoun for a list of names to pass on to the ministry's board of pardons.

A Justice Ministry spokesperson said that each case will be subject to individual review.
