Lebanon newspaper says it has photos of IDF soldiers' remains

A Lebanese newspaper on Monday said it had in its possession photographs showing the remains of Israel Defense Forces soldiers, less than a week after Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah announced that his Islamist group was holding the bodies of soldiers killed in the Second Lebanon War.

The newspaper also published a photograph of a military dog tag it said belonged to an IDF soldier, claiming "part of his body was left on the battlefield."

The article in the Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar was written by Hezbollah-linked journalist Ibrahim al-Amin, who said he would not publish the photographs for "humanitarian reasons."

Al-Amin said that Nasrallah had achieved his goal of shaming Israel in his speech last week, particularly in light of the upcoming publication of the Winograd Commission's report investigating the war.

In his article, Al-Amin wrote that the IDF had been convinced it had "closed" the issue of soldiers' remains.

Al-Amin also said Nasrallah had no intention to lower his demands for a prisoner exchange deal that would secure the release of abducted IDF soldiers Eldad Regev and Ehud Golwasser in exchange for the release of all Lebanese prisoners and some Palestinian prisoners.
