Supreme Court President Justice Dorit Beinisch appointed former High Court Justice Dalia Dorner on Sunday to head a state commission of inquiry into the government's treatment of Holocaust survivors, which the Knesset State Control Committee decided to
establish two weeks ago.

Professors Omer Moav and Zvi Eisikovitz will also serve on the panel.

Beinisch announced her decision in a letter to MK Zevulun Orlev (National Religious Party), who chairs the Knesset committee.

Moav is an economics professor at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and also holds a position at the University of London. He also serves as a senior fellow at the Shalem Center research facility.

Professor Eisikovitz teaches social work at Haifa University, and also heads the social research center at the university. He also holds positions at University of Pennsylvania and at Boston College. His parents, both deceased, were Holocaust survivors.

According to the committee's decision, the state commission of inquiry must investigate and reach conclusions on an appropriate response to the special needs of Israeli citizens and residents who were rendered disabled due to Nazi persecution, along with other Holocaust survivors and refugees. The conclusions must include a comparison of aid given to survivors by other governments, and an analysis of the way the Finance Ministry has dealt with survivors.

The commission is likely to release an interim report, as the majority of the population it will investigate is elderly.
