Last year saw a 19.2 percent increase in the number of Palestinians who crossed from the West Bank into Jordan through the Allenby crossing, according to figures obtained by Haaretz from the Airports Authority.

The figures show that roughly 948,695 Palestinians crossed the Allenby Bridge in 2007, as opposed to 792,695 in 2006. However, vehicular crossings dropped by 3.8 percent, after 6,310 cars crossed in 2007, down from 8,824 in 2006.

The number of Jordanians passing through the Israeli-controlled border crossings was also up in 2007. At least 85,172 Jordanian workers coming to work in southern Israel crossed into Israel through the Yitzhak Rabin crossing in the Arava, as opposed to 81,016 in 2006, marking a 5.8 percent increase.

An increase was registered at the Jordan River crossing as well - 12,064 Jordanians used the crossing to come into Israel in 2007, as opposed to 4,961 in 2006. That marks a 13.4 percent increase.
