Fatah marks its anniversary in Bethlehem with show of force
By Haaretz Staff and Channel 10
Tags: Bethlehem, Israel, Hamas
Haaretz.com/Channel 10 daily feature for January 3, 2008.

Fatah marked on Monday the 43rd anniversary of its establishment with a display of its security forces' strength in the West Bank town of Bethlehem, only three days after a terror attack by its men near Hebron took the lives of two Israeli hikers.

In light of Fatah's ouster from Gaza by Hamas in June, and the recent renewal of clashes between the groups in the coastal strip, the Bethlehem march appears, however, more a message aimed at the rival movement than a statement about security in the West Bank.
