Jordan's King Abdullah II urged Israel on Wednesday not to take unilateral measures that could compromise peace negotiations with the
Palestinians.

Abdullah, who met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the Red Sea

affect final status issues.

"Israel must halt settlement activities in all the Palestinian territories," a Royal Palace statement said.

The king pledged to support the Palestinian position and efforts that aim at finding lasting solutions to all the essential issues, the statement also said.

Abbas briefed Abdullah on his meeting with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert
ahead of a visit by U.S. President George W. Bush to the Mideast later this month, the statement said.

The leaders of Israel, the Palestinian Authority and the United States are expected to hold a joint meeting during Bush's visit, in an effort to accelerate negotiations on the conflict's core issues - borders, refugees, and Jerusalem.

Abbas also told reporters he discussed a Jordanian-Palestinian coordination for the future negotiations with Abdullah.
