Powder sent to Israeli Embassy in Australia found to pose no threat
By Barak Ravid, Haaretz Correspondent
Tags: Australia, Israel

Fears of an attempted biological attack against the Israeli Embassy in Canberra, Australia on Wednesday turned out to be a false alarm.

An envelope containing suspicious white powder was delivered to the embassy early Wednesday. As soon as it was opened, the entire embassy staff was sent into isolation and Australian security forces were called to the scene.

The special unit on the scene took samples from the powder, and, three hours later, announced that it posed no biological or chemical danger.

The embassy staff was released from isolation and work was resumed. However, the security forces gave the embassy employees bracelets with emergency phone numbers, should they notice suspicious symptoms in the next 48 hours.

Foreign Ministry sources said that the incident ended with no harm caused, and there exist no fears for the lives of the embassy workers.
