50 MKs to PM: Take part in Knesset session on Winograd final report
By Shahar Ilan, Haaretz Correspondent
Tags: Knesset, Ehud Olmert

50 MKs signed a petition on Sunday to devote a Knesset session, with the participation of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, to the findings of the final Winograd report upon its publication.

Technically, the request requires only 40 signatures, but the signatories wish to pre-empt Olmert's attempts to avoid a discussion in the Knesset on the matter.

The move was led by Meretz faction whip MK Zahava Gal-On, Likud faction whip MK Gideon Sa'ar, Interior and Environment Committee MK Ophir Pines and former coalition chairman MK Avigdor Itzchaky. In addition to Pines and Itzchaky, seven other coalition members signed the petition.

The organizers said that "the Knesset and the political system should act against Olmert's persistent attempts to eschew his responsibility to the failures of the war, especially following his announcement last week that he would not resign no matter what."
