Lev Leviev, Israel's richest man, to leave country for London

Billionaire investor Lev Leviev, Israel's richest man whose estimated net worth is valued at $6.5 billion, is leaving the country to take up residence in London, a development which shocked the Israeli business community.

Leviev and his wife, Olga, will join their daughter, Ruthie, who has been living in London for many years and is not at all tied to her father's businesses. Leviev's other children plan to remain in Israel for the time being.

Leviev, who acquired Africa Israel Investments about nine years ago and turned it into a multinational property investment empire, initially denied the Channel 2 report of his planned move through spokesman Rani Rahav.

The TV network also stated that Leviev, a hands-on manager, is moving to the U.K. to keep a close eye on London-listed AFI Development. Since its flotation in May, AFI has lost a third of its value, or $2.4 billion.

"Since being appointed chairman of AFI Development, it became apparent the job requires a continued presence in London, without [Leviev] neglecting his businesses in Israel," a Leviev spokesman said.
