Four killed, including Rafael scientist, in weekend road accidents

Scientist Yitzhak Einbinder, 52, of Haifa was killed by a car on Saturday while walking with his son against the traffic along Route 22 near Haifa. Einbinder's 16-year-old son remains in intensive care. The car was driven by a 74-year-old man.

Einbinder's wife, while driving to pick up her husband and son, heard on the radio that there had been an accident. When she called her sister and learned they had never arrived, she contacted the police and received the news.

Einbinder was a senior scientist at Rafael, a father of five, and a member of Haifa's Orthodox community.

Fareda Abeta, 33, was killed by a car Friday while crossing a Jerusalem intersection. Police said preliminary inquiries indicated Abeta had not used a pedestrian crossing.

At 3 A.M. Friday, a 25-year-old woman was killed when the car she was in crashed into a lamppost near Kfar Yona in the Sharon. The driver was badly hurt and a front passenger sustained moderate injuries.

Earlier that night, a young Hadera man was killed when the car he was in crashed into a rock while entering a gas station off the coastal highway. His four friends, all in their 20s, were injured, two seriously.
