IDF soldier arrested for dealing drugs to hundreds of Haifa teens
By Fadi Eyadat, Haaretz Correspondent

Police have arrested two men, a 19-year-old IDF soldier and another man, 27, for allegedly selling drugs to hundreds of teens in the Haifa and Krayot areas.

Over a hundred teens, ages 15-18, have been questioned in the matter since September and confessed to using drugs in school, in their homes and in public parks.

The pupils admitted to using drugs with teens from other schools in the northern area. They were described by Chief Inspector Avishai Jino as belonging to "good families" and having no past criminal records.

"They were released to their homes after cooperating with the police," Jino said, "and their cases were passed to probation officers."

The soldier is being held by the Military Police. Police will request that the Haifa Magistrates Court extend the remand of the other man, whose alleged drug sales were independent of the soldier's.

The affair began three months ago, after the Coastal Plain District Police received a tip regarding drug activity in the area. As a result, police searched the homes of several Haifa pupils and found drugs and drug-related computer correspondence.
