del.icio.us Digg It!  new Last update - 21:22 11/12/2007 T.A. man sentenced to 8 years in prison for robbing the elderly By Ofra Idelman, Haaretz Correspondent Tags: Tel Aviv, sentence, crime  The Tel Aviv District Court on Tuesday sentenced 36-year-old Tel Aviv resident Riad Baliah to a prison term of eight years and ten months for robbing and assaulting senior citizens. Baliah was convicted of eight counts of robbery, one count of attempted robbery, and one count of assault for an attack in which in which he fractured the pelvis of an 80-year-old woman. According to the sentence, Baliah robbed elderly women he met in the street, seizing their jewelry in order to finance his drug addiction. Advertisement Baliah received an eight year prison term as part of a plea bargain with the prosecution, and the court enforced a ten month suspended prison term that Baliah received for a prior conviction. In his ruling, judge Khaled Kabub said that had it not been for the plea bargain, Baliah would have received a harsher sentence.
