Court extends remand of journalist over alleged sex crimes with underage girls

Editor's note (03/04/08): The case against Adam Shuv has been closed due to lack of guilt.

Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court on Wednesday extended the remand of journalist Adam Shuv, who is suspected of having unlawful sex with one minor and of committing indecent acts with another.

Police arrested Shuv on Tuesday night, two weeks after one of his alleged underage victims complained to the police that he had raped her.

Shuv worked until recently as the editor of TheMarker Cafe, the social networking site of Haaretz' sister publication, TheMarker.

A spokesman for Tel Aviv District Police said the minor's complaints had been examined over the past two weeks, leading police to decide that an investigation was justified. The spokesman added that another underaged girl had also accused Shuv of committing indecent acts.

Shuv's attorney told reporters Wednesday that because of media reports police had requested Shuv remain in custody for questioning overnight.

"It is a shame that once again, delicate questions of emotion and intimacy between he [Shuv] and her [the plaintiff] cause a media storm after which it emerges that the slanderous headlines had no connection to reality," the spokesman said.
