(Daniel Bar On) del.icio.us Digg It!  new Last update - 13:20 27/11/2007 Beinisch: Israel is swarming with harrowing violence By Shahar Ilan, Haaretz Correspondent Tags: Israel, human trafficking  Supreme Court President Dorit Beinisch told the Knesset Committee on the Status of Women on Tuesday that "we live in a society swarmed with harrowing violence, in which a person cannot feel secure in his own home." Beinisch spoke at a session marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. She also said that "violence against weaker populations, like the elderly, is particularly disturbing. This is a shocking phenomenon. Israeli society was founded on the principle of equality; not only has this equality yet to be reached, women are perceived as an inferior population subjected to dangers everywhere." Advertisement Beinisch spoke against violence and trafficking in human beings for purposes of prostitution and slavery. "These trends are dreadful and it's hard to believe we have yet to do away with them." Committee chairman MK Gideon Sa'ar said that NIS 15 million will be shortly added to the current budget of centers for victims of sexual abuse, and that three new centers are to be inaugurated throughout 2008.
