Israel's No. 1 male tennis player, Dudi Sela, reached the final at the Challengers event in Yokohama, Japan, by defeating Croatian Franko Skugor 6-3, 6-2 in their semifinal yesterday. Sela, who is the top seed at the tournament and who also reached the final in a Challengers event in Taiwan last week, will face fifth-seeded Tako Suzuki of Japan in the final. Eddy Curry scored 21 points against his former team, and the New York Knicks snapped their eight-game losing streak with an 85-78 victory over the Chicago Bulls yesterday. Stephon Marbury shook off the boos from the home fans to add 19 points, including a pair of jumpers after Chicago had rallied to tie the game. Zach Randolph also had a pair of clutch buckets during the closing minutes and finished with 20 points. Both teams are off to dismal starts, but the Knicks probably needed a win more. Chicago has overcome its poor early season play in recent years, but New York couldn't afford to let things get much worse, especially with plenty of speculation already that coach Isiah Thomas could be fired. Quentin Richardson grabbed 15 rebounds for the Knicks, who opened their first double-digit lead of the season in the first half, then blew all of it before recovering to win for the first time since the third game of the season. On Friday, it was: Orlando 105, Charlotte 92; Golden State 123, Washington 115; Boston 107, L.A. Lakers 94; Indiana 111, Dallas 107; Miami 98, Houston 91; Detroit 83, Philadelphia 78; San Antonio 101, Memphis 88; Denver 99, Minnesota 93; Utah 99, New Orleans 71; Phoenix 113, L.A. Clippers 94; Portland 87, Sacramento 84; and New Jersey 98, Seattle 93. (AP)

Sean Glennon threw for 260 yards, Tyrod Taylor ran for two touchdowns and No. 8 Virginia Tech won the biggest game in the history of its rivalry with Virginia 33-21 yesterday to advance to the ACC championship game. The Hokies (10-2, 7-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) also got a season-high 147 yards rushing from Branden Ore, and six catches for 147 yards and a touchdown from Eddie Royal. The victory earned Virginia Tech a rematch with No. 15 Boston College in next Saturday's conference title game. The Eagles, who defeated Miami 28-14 yesterday, rallied with two touchdowns in the final 2:11 to stun the Hokies 14-10 in Blacksburg on October 25. On Friday, unranked Arkansas upset No. 1 LSU 50-48 after three overtimes. (AP)
