Haifa teen confesses to multiple incidents of rape, sexual assault
By Fadi Eyadat, Haaretz Correspondent
Tags: Haifa, Crime

Police arrested on Friday a Haifa high school student on suspicion of raping and sexually assaulting several girls between the ages of 8 and 17 over the last two years.

The youth, 17, has so far confessed to five counts of rape and the Haifa court has extended his remand by five days.

The Haifa teen is suspected of following his victims home from school and violently assaulting them in the stairwells of their buildings. Police believe that he stalked his victims while riding a bicycle through the neighborhood, often performing repeated surveillances of his victims before carrying out his attacks.

Two weeks ago, an eight-year-old girl was raped and sexually assaulted as she returned home from school. Police believe the suspect followed the girl home, dragged her into a stairwell, and raped her.

Police have not decided whether or not to connect the suspect to a series of additional rapes of minors that have also taken place in Haifa recently
