IDF boosts patrols in West Bank after fatal shooting
Tags: security, patrols, IDF

The Israel Defense Forces have stepped up patrols of major roads in the West Bank following a shooting attack west of Nablus Monday night that claimed the life of Ido Zoldan, 29, a resident of Shavei Shomron.

The attack occurred while Zoldan was driving home, when a Subaru sedan carrying two Palestinians overtook him and opened fire. The terrorists fled the area and the IDF was unable to find any tracks. The Fatah-affiliated Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades claimed responsibility for the killing.

The IDF is concerned that as the Annapolis summit, which is scheduled to take place next week, draws near, terrorist groups will intensify their efforts to carry out attacks throughout the territories in an effort to torpedo the conference.

The IDF had no intelligence warning of a planned attack along that road, which is frequented by Israel traffic and is generally considered quiet. The road has no IDF observation towers. (Yuval Azoulay)
