Netnayahu and Sa'ar after the meeting with Rabbi Yosef (Alon Ron) Last update - 13:39 12/11/2007 Netanyahu lobbies Ovadia Yosef in bid to stymie peace summit By Mazal Mualem, Haaretz Correspondent Tags: Benjamin Netanyahu  Likud Chairman Benjamin Netanyahu and Likud faction head Gideon Sa'ar met Monday morning with Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef to convince him that the Annapolis peace summit would entail security risks for Israel. Shas leader and Trade Minister Eli Yishai also attended the meeting. Netanyahu said after the meeting that Olmert is repeating the mistakes that former prime minister Ehud Barak made at the failed Camp David summit in 2000. He also said that the Olmert-Barak-Livni government is about to carry out another unilateral withdrawal from Palestinian territories, in addition to 2005's Disengagement from Gaza. Advertisement Netanyahu and Sa'ar asked to meet Rabbi Yosef in order to highlight what they saw as the potential ramifications if an extensive withdrawal of Israeli troops were undertaken in the West Bank, as well as the possible consequences of concessions in Jerusalem, including holy places. Likud MKs have recently urged Shas and Yisrael Beitenu, the most right-wing parties in government, to leave the coalition on grounds of the approaching Annapolis summit. According to Likud sources, Netanyahu and Yishai have been meeting more often lately, and a few Shas MKs are expected to attend a rally for Jerusalem on Wednesday, which is organized by Likud. Meanwhile, Labor Chairman and Defense Minister Ehud Barak told Labor ministers on Sunday that he supports and prays for the success of the Annapolis summit. "We must move down the peace route, but this does not absolve us of our responsibility for the security of Israeli citizens."
