The Hop! paradox
By Danit Nitzan
tags: television, Israel, Hop

Television programs concerning health and physical fitness will be broadcast this month on the Hop! channel. These include "Healthy Habits for Life," "Lazy Town," "Be Healthy" and "Vitamin X."

"Lazy Town" is a series that contrasts opposing lifestyles - an athletic, physically active life versus a lazy life with poor eating habits. The series employs humor, songs and puppets to get its healthy living message across.

"Healthy Habits for Life" is a new interactive program from the "Sesame Workshop" series. In this program, a muppet invites Elmo, Zoe and the rest of the "Sesame Street" gang to exercise with him, along with the children viewing at home.

"Be Healthy," is an original production by Hop! and partly funded by the Health Ministry. A doll choir goes on a concert tour in space and meets various creatures who demonstrate the virtues of a healthy lifestyle. Among the topics covered in the series: avoiding smoking, encouraging the consumption of fruits and vegetables, favoring water as the preferred beverage and promoting physical activity.

"Vitamin X" teaches children about the various vitamins and their significance.

In addition to these programs, Hop! will broadcast video clips calling on children to turn off the TV and go outside and play. The clips, produced in the framework of the Yaldut Yisraelit (Israeli Childhood) project, will teach juvenile couch potatoes how to play classic children's games, via catchy songs that explain the rules of each game.
