The United Jewish Communities of North America opened their annual general assembly in Nashville, Tennessee on Sunday.

The three-day event will close Tuesday evening with a speech by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. According to the UJC, Rice will discuss the international conference on the Middle East, set to take place in Annapolis, Maryland at the end of November.

Other guests at the conference include Israeli cabinet minister Isaac Herzog and former Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean. Also on the guest list was Oscar winner Ari Sandel, whose film "West Bank Story" picked up this year's Best Short Film trophy.

The conference features panel discussions, seminars and workshops and includes sessions on the absorption of new Israeli immigrants, the controversial books on Israel and the Jewish lobby by Walt and Mearsheimer and former president Jimmy Carter, and investment in Israel.

Attendees arriving Saturday night were treated to an evening of songs penned by Jewish writers, who worked for stars such as Ricky Martin, Christina Aguilera, Shania Twain and Al Jarreau.

The UJC is an umbrella group, comprising more than 15 Jewish organizations and 400 Jewish communities across North America.
