Police suspect 2 boys, both 13, drugged and raped 12-year-old

A 12-year-old girl was brought to Hillel Yaffe hospital in Hadera early Sunday morning, unconscious and exhibiting signs of rape. Police suspect that she was raped overnight by two 13-year-old boys in an apartment in Pardes Hannah.

Hospital workers reported that the girl is in serious condition and remains unconscious. Tests were run to determine whether the "date rape" drug was used to render the girl unconscious.

The police took the two suspects in for questioning.

According to the police, the suspects and the victim had known each other prior to the incident. "During the course of the evening they arrived at the home of one of the boys and drank alcohol to the point of intoxication. We suspect she was raped by one of them, or both. The incident is being investigated," said Chief Superintendent Ran Ophir.

Ophir added that the father of one of the two suspects noticed the unconscious girl in the morning and summoned a Magen David Adom emergency medical team, who rushed her to the hospital. The police are looking into the whereabouts of the boys' parents at the time of the incident.

The date rape drug contains mainly a sedative called GHB (Gamma hydroxy butyrate). Though dozens of women who complained of having been drugged and raped were tested for the drug, no trace of it has so far been detected. The reason for this discrepancy could be the fact that the substance completely dissipates from the bloodstream approximately 8 hours after its ingestion. However, drug arrests show that the substance is regularly distributed in the country.
