Car flips over into ditch near Yokneam Junction, leaving 2 hurt
By Haaretz Service

A 27-year-old male is in moderate condition and a female passenger in his car suffered light injuries after the vehicle in which they were driving flipped over and tumbled into a ditch near Yokneam Junction.

The two were evacuated to Rambam Hospital in Haifa for treatment.

A 52-year-old resident of Givatayim died Friday after suffering a heart attack while driving.

The driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a parked car. He was taken to Sheba Medical Center at Tel HaShomer in serious condition, where he died shortly thereafter.

In a separate accident in Hadera, a driver lost control of his vehicle and overturned. The vehicle's five passengers were injured - one seriously, one moderately and one lightly - and all were taken to Hillel Yaffe Hospital in the city.

Traffic police organized a traffic law-enforcement operation late Thursday night, in which almost 1,000 drivers' licenses were revoked. More than 50 drivers were caught driving while under the influence of alcohol.

National traffic police chief Reuven Edri told Army Radio Friday morning that if the police had more manpower, they could launch more operations and improve Israel's road conditions.

"I really hope that by the end of the year we will have these kinds of operations more frequently, in order to minimize the amount of fatal accidents," he said.

On Thursday, a 44-year-old Bnei Brak resident was killed when his car crashed into another vehicle near south Ra'anana junction. Two other passengers were injured in the accident.

Since the beginning of the year, 353 people have been killed in traffic-related accidents.
