Four militants killed in clashes with IDF troops in the Gaza Strip

Four militants were killed on Friday in three separate clashes with Israel Defense Forces troops in the Gaza Strip.

A Hamas militant was killed and another seriously wounded on Friday afternoon in an Israel Air Force strike in central Gaza, the militant group reported.

The IDF confirmed the strike, saying aircraft targeted militants who were approaching troops operating just inside the central Gaza to stop rocket attacks on Israel.

Earlier Friday, three Palestinian militants were killed and two IDF soldiers lightly wounded during IDF operations throughout the coastal territory.

Also Friday, seven Qassam rockets struck the western Negev. No injuries were caused, but one rocket struck a textile factory in Sderot, causing a fire.

In the northern Gaza Strip earlier Friday, IDF infantry troops clashed with armed gunmen, killing two of them. Two IDF soldiers were hurt in the incident, and were taken to Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva for treatment.

In a separate incident, troops clashed with Palestinian militants near the southern Gaza town of Khan Yunis, killing a member of Islamic Jihad. None of the soldiers were wounded in that incident.

On Thursday, an Islamic Jihad militant and two members of Hamas' military wing were killed in separate clashed with IDF troops in the Gaza Strip.

Also Thursday, Palestinian militants fired 10 Qassam rockets at the western Negev. Two of the rockets were found to have struck open fields in the southern town of Sderot, causing no injuries or damage.

Thursday afternoon, four mortar shells struck near the Sufa checkpoint on southern Gaza's border with Israel. There were no injuries.

Israel will in the coming days begin cutting electricity to the Gaza Strip as a response to Qassam rocket fire, after Defense Minister Ehud Barak gave final approval to the defense establishment plan on Thursday.
