Comptroller to decide on Zelekha ouster by Nov. 15
By Eti Aflalo

"We are hearing evidence now, and by November 15 there will be a detailed decision on the matter [of whether to allow Finance Minister Roni Bar-On to remove Accountant General Yaron Zelekha]," said State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss yesterday.

The comptroller was speaking to the annual conference of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Israel held yesterday in Tel Aviv.

He explained: "Whistle-blowers are often in a very difficult situation of ostracism in the offices where they work, and attempts are made to fire them. Therefore, we need to need provide proper protection for whistle-blowers," said Lindenstrauss.

As to the case of the woman who was fired from the National Workers Organization after complaining about corruption in the affair relating to former finance minister Abraham Hirchson and other senior officials, Lindenstrauss said that since he has no authority in the matter to prevent the firing, he intends to ask the Knesset to deal with it.

Opposition leader, MK Benjamin Netanyahu, praised Lindenstrauss at the conference, saying "corruption is a hidden tax, both economic and ethical. The profits do not go to who works harder, but to those who do other things."
