2 PIs arrested for allegedly extorting supermarket chain execs
By Jonathan Lis, Haaretz Correspondent

Two private investigators were arrested Sunday for allegedly attempting to extort executives of the popular supermarket chain Tiv Ta'am.

The prime suspect in the case is a 32-year-old man from the town of Elichin. Police are also questioning his associate, a 60-year-old resident of Hadera.

The two men are alleged to have demanded NIS 100,000 in hush money as part of a threat to release damaging information about the company to the investigative consumer watchdog television program "Kolbotek."

The arrest on Sunday was the result of a police sting during which a representative of Tiv Ta'am management met with the private investigator, handing him NIS 50,000.

Immediately after the money exchanged hands, the police moved in for the arrest.

The original complaint was filed by one of the company's shareholders, and not the owner of the chain.

The matter is being investigated by the police's National Fraud Investigation Unit.
