Prosecutor delivers draft indictment to former minister Hirchson
By Yuval Yoaz, Haaretz Correspondent and Haaretz Service

The Tel Aviv District Prosecutor on Tuesday delivered a draft indictment to former finance minister Abraham Hirchson, who is suspected of embezzling money from the National Workers' Organization during his tenure there as chairman.

Before an actual indictment is made, Hirchson will be brought before the prosecutor for a hearing.

Among the allegations in the draft indictment are fraud, money laundering and breach of trust.

A police investigation has revealed evidence suggesting the former minister had embezzled millions of shekels from the National Workers' Organization, a workers' union he headed between 1998 - 2005, and from Nili, a nonprofit organization associated with the Histadrut national labor federation.

Police were investigating whether Hirchson used some of the NIS 5.65 million allegedly embezzled from Nili to finance political activity in the Likud party, of which he was a member before joining Kadima.

The March of the Living, the Yovlim Pensioners' Fund, the Walker Foundation for needy students and Nili have been questioned over the matter.

Hirchson tendered his resignation to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in mid-July after criminal suspicions were brought against him. He took temporary leave in April when the allegations first took shape.
