Rabin killer Amir asks to attend son's upcoming circumcision

Yigal Amir, the jailed killer of prime minister Yitzhak Rabin, recently requested that the Israel Prison Service grant him leave to be present at the upcoming circumcision of his unborn son.

Amir's wife, Larisa Trimbobler, is in the last stages of pregnancy and is expected to give birth within the next few days.

IPS confirmed on Sunday that it had received Amir's request, but said no answer had yet been given. The prisons service will hold a special session on the issue in the coming days.

Sources within the prisons service believe, however, the chances of Amir's being granted leave are slim. This is due to his status as a security prisoner serving a life sentence without parole.

IPA is also expected to discuss an alternative request of the assassin's, in which he asked to hold the circumcision ceremony at the Rimonim Prison, in the Sharon area, where he is jailed. Sources at the prisons service also doubt the likelihood of this being approved.

Amir had earlier battled for his right to marry and have children. He married Trimbobler by proxy after IPS, backed by Attorney General Menachem Mazuz, forbade the ceremony from being held in prison.

Trimbobler paid him a conjugal visit in November 2006 after Shin Bet chief Yuval Diskin ruled this did not pose a security risk
