Police arrest ex-informant for trying to force way into army base

Police arrested a former Palestinian informant who tried to force his way into an army base in Tel Aviv to protest his alleged neglect by Israeli authorities.

Nadim Injaz, 30, arrived at the base's gate threatening to cause provocations because he said he had received no support or protection from Israel. His permit allowing him to stay in Israel is due to expire within days.

Injaz had recently been released from jail for having entered the British Embassy in Tel Aviv in 2006 claiming to be in possession of a firearm and demanding political asylum.

In that incident, police special forces seized Injaz and disarmed him after he laid down his pistol for a second to eat food that they had given to him. After the arrest, the authorities discovered that the weapon was plastic, the police said in a statement.
