Secondary school teachers to launch strike on Wednesday
By Or Kashti and Moti Bassok, Haaretz Correspondents
The Secondary Schools Teachers Association decided Sunday to launch a strike in high schools and some junior high schools starting Wednesday.

Teachers in the Arab sector, however, will go on strike the following Wednesday.

Teachers Association Chairman Ran Erez said teachers are seeking a significant improvement in wages and other conditions. They are also demanding that dozens of instructional hours be restored, and a reduction in the number of children per class.

In response, the Finance Ministry issued a statement saying the "Teachers Association has decided not to take advantage of the window of opportunity and has chosen not to join the education reforms."

The treasury said the government has given education top priority, allocating NIS 5 billion toward education reforms, including NIS 1.3 billion toward adding the Teachers' Association to the reforms.
