del.icio.us Digg It!  new Last update - 17:00 04/10/2007 IAF targets car carrying Islamic Jihad gunmen in southern Gaza By Avi Issacharoff and Zvika Gottlieb, Haaretz Correspondents and News Agencies The Israel Air Force fired missiles on the southern Gaza Strip Thursday afternoon after identifying a vehicle carrying militants who had carried out mortar shell attacks against Israel, the Israel Defense Forces said. The IDF spokesman said that immediately preceding the attack, the gunmen, belonging to the militant group Islamic Jihad, had fired three mortar shells toward Israel. Islamic Jihad said the strike had missed its apparent target but had injured three bystanders. Palestinian medical officials confirmed that three civilians had been lightly to moderately hurt. Advertisement On Wednesday morning, two Palestinians were killed in separate IDF strikes in the Gaza Strip. In the first incident, a Hamas militant was killed and three were injured when the IAF struck a group of militants near the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah, Palestinians said. The militant was named as Mohammed Hassan. Soon thereafter, another Palestinian, 19-year-old Said al-Amur, was killed by IDF troops operating near Khan Yunis. It was not immediately known whether the 19-year-old was a civilian or militant. The army would only say that the operation was against terror infrastructure in the area. Also Wednesday, Hamas said in a text message that one of its members had been killed in a "holy mission" near the Israeli border. Hamas said the man was killed in the collapse of a tunnel he was digging in northern Gaza. Two others were hurt in the incident, Hamas said.
