Two Palestinians, including Hamas militant, killed in IDF strikes on Gaza

Two Palestinians were killed in separate Israel Defense Forces strikes in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday morning.

In the first incident, a Hamas militant was killed and three were injured when the Israel Air Force struck a group of militants near the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah, Palestinians said. The militant was named as Mohammed Hassan.

Soon thereafter, another Palestinian, 19-year-old Said al-Amur, was killed by IDF troops operating near Khan Yunis. It was not immediately known whether the 19-year-old man was a civilian or militant. The army would only say that the operation was against terror infrastructure in the area.

Also Wednesday, Hamas said in a text message that one of its members had been killed in a "holy mission" near the Israeli border. Hamas said the man was killed in the collapse of a tunnel he was digging in northern Gaza. Two others were hurt in the incident, Hamas said.

Border Police wound Palestinian holding toy gun in Hebron
Border Police forces shot and seriously wounded a Palestinian holding a toy gun in Hebron on Tuesday afternoon. Another Palestinian was lightly hurt.

According to a statement issued by the IDF, the border policemen who were patrolling the Jewish holy site of the Tomb of the Patriarchs, believed the men were attempting to carry out a terror attack.

The two Palestinians were taken to a Hebron hospital for treatment.

The IDF reported that one of the men had approached the Border Police security post and tried to pass the checkpoint without passing through the metal detector. The policemen caught him and demanded that he go back through the detector, and when it went off, the man pulled out what later turned out to be a toy gun, detonated a firecracker and yelled out "Allah akbar" or God is great.

The police officers manning the checkpoint were convinced the man was trying to carry out an attack and fired toward him.
