Director of Ichilov emergency room charged with taking bribes
By Roni Singer-Heruti and Amir Zohar, Haaretz Correspondents

The Central District Attorney's Office decided on Wednesday to charge the director of the emergency room at Tel Aviv's Ichilov Hospital with receiving bribes

Jacky Sarov is suspected of taking bribes from alleged crime boss Asi Abutbul. He has admitted to the charges, and said that he did not refuse Abutbul because he felt threatened.

Abutbul was charged in May with the extortion of various Israeli and French businessmen. He allegedly paid Sarov to summon him for medical appointments while he was in police custody.

The indictment against Abutbul reveals that he went to the emergency room three times, and each time, he was received by Dr. Sarov without having to wait on line.

Abutbul paid the doctor each time, according to the indictment, between NIS 800 and NIS 1,000.

The International Crimes Investigation Unit amassed the evidence against Sarov through Abutbul's phone conversations, on which it had been eavesdropping.
