In boost for Histadrut, Arkia signs pilots to collective agreement
By Zohar Blumenkratz and Haim Bior, Haaretz Correspondents

Israeli airliner Arkia reached an agreement with its pilots Thursday offering they enter a collective agreement replacing the current practice of signing them to personal contracts.

The deal is considered an achievement for the Histadrut labor union, going against the current market trend that recently saw the Labor party cancel its collective contract and sign employees on an individual basis.

Histadrut official Avi Edri said in response "it's a great agreement for workers, securing Arkia's workers [rights] in collective agreements and compensating them properly and respectably."

Gaddy Taper, a representative of Arkia company owners, said "we have devoted and excellent workers at Arkia. Management is pleased with the agreements reached between us and the employees and believes it will contribute to the company's growth side by side with its employees, for the benefit of our customers."

El Al hires its pilots by a collective agreement while Israir offers its employees personal contracts.
