Facing ouster, Zelekha accuses prime minister of personal vendetta
By Zvi Zrahiya

Accountant General Yaron Zelekha on Tuesday said Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has been personally persecuting him since February 2006, when a state comptroller investigation revealed the prime minister's involvement in impropriety surrounding the government sale of Bank Leumi shares.

Zelekha spoke at a State Control Committee discussion on the finance minister's announced intent not to renew his term, effectively dismissing him from his post.

"Olmert is publicly lying when he claims he tried to fire me before. Only someone who is deaf and blind would fail to realize that strange things happened surrounding the Bank Leumi affair," Zelekha told the committee. "A senior Finance Ministry official spoke to me and told me that if I continued to complain against these moves, I would destroy myself and the department."
