The recipients of the chief of staff awards were decided by a committee chaired by Maj.-Gen. Yishai Bar, based on a list composed by the General Staff Committee for Medals and Citations.

Among the recipients of the chief of staff medals are those who participated in the first battle of Bint Jbail on July 26, 2006, in which eight soldiers from Battalion 51 of the Golani Brigade died.
