Man killed, 2 hurt in separate ultralight aircraft accidents
By Zohar Blumenkrantz, Haaretz Correspondent

A man was killed and two others injured in two separate crashes involving ultralight aircraft over the weekend.

The fatal crash occured on Saturday near Beit Hanniyah, located near the northern town of Jasser a-Zarka.

On Friday, one person was moderately injured and another was lightly hurt when an ultralight aircraft crashed near a landing strip in Ein Vered.

The small aircraft apparently hit an electrical wire and was forced to make an emergency landing in the Sharon region.

The two passengers, in their 40s, were taken to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva for treatment. The Israel Civil Aviation Authority (ICAA) has launched an investigation into the incident.

The crash occurred at a time of decline in the number of recreational aviation accidents. A Transportation Ministry report on last year's accidents in sport aviation concluded that 24 accidents had occurred last year. 15 people were injured in aircraft accidents, seven of them in recreational aviation accidents.

The report submitted by the ICAA's accident investigator, Uri Dayan, said that "the percentage of accidents in the recreational aviation field in recent years has far exceeded the percentage of accidents in general aviation. The supervision over recreational aviation is miniscule."
