Police search for man who assaulted guard at Tel Aviv army base
By Yuval Azoulay and Roni Singer-Haruti, Haaretz Correspondents

Police on Thursday are searching for a man who assaulted and lightly wounded a Tel Aviv army base security guard with a screw driver.

The suspect, an air conditioner technician, became irate and cut the guard's face after he was asked why he was lingering outside the underground parking shared by the Ministry of Defense and the Israel Defense Forces.

Security closed all the entrances and searched the base for the suspect but he had managed to escape.

Defense ministry sources said that the incident is being treated as a serious security breach because high level meetings are regularly held in the military compound on Thursdays.

They added that the peripheral security of the base is under the IDF's responsibility.
