IDF arrests 2 Palestinians for aiding Gaza infiltrators
By Amos Harel, Yuval Azoulay, Avi Issacharoff and Yoav Stern, Haaretz Correspondents and News Agencies

The Israel Defense Forces' Golani Brigade Saturday evening arrested two Palestinians from Gaza suspected of aiding two Popular Resistance Committee terrorists who had infiltrated Israel from the Gaza Strip in a bid to carry out a terror attack.

IDF troops pursued and killed the armed militants after they were sighted penetrating Israel from Gaza under the cover of fog.

Popular Resistance Committees spokesman Abu Abir said the two had planned to carry out a terror attack in the Israeli community of Moshav Netiv Haasara.

According to Abir, the infiltration was planned two months ago with the objective of targeting Israeli soldiers and civilians. "We make no distinction between Israeli soldiers and civilians, because the occupying forces make no such distinction," he said.

In a separate incident Saturday, IDF troops killed two Islamic Jihad militants in the West Bank, according to IDF and Palestinian sources.

The gunmen used a rope and ladder to scale a border wall along the security fence near the Erez crossing.

The IDF Spokesman said the militants fired on troops, and one soldier was lightly wounded in the exchange. Both militants were killed, and found to be in possession of weapons and explosives belts.

According to Israel Radio, the Palestinian gunmen were also found to be wearing army uniforms.

A spokesman for the Popular Resistance Committees militant group in Gaza confirmed one of its gunmen and another from the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine were killed in a "martyrdom operation against the Zionist entity," aimed at the Israeli community of Nativ Ha'asara, near the Gaza border.

"In Saturday's early-morning raid, the militants took advantage of darkness and weather conditions to slip into Israel near the Erez border crossing," said Col. Moni Katz, an IDF commander. "There was thick fog that enabled us to see only a few meters ahead," he said.

In the West Bank city of Jenin, forces from the IDF and Border Police killed senior Islamic Jihad militant Ala Abu al-Said, in a joint operation early Saturday.

Another militant who was critically wounded in the IDF raid died later Saturday. Four other Islamic Jihad men were also wounded, one of them seriously.

IDF kills Israeli boy in West Bank raid
An 11-year-old Israeli boy from Rahat who was visiting his mother's family near Tul Karm was killed Friday during a Border Police arrest raid. A wanted Islamic Jihad militant was killed in the same arrest raid in Kafr Saida, northeast of Tul Karm, and a second was seriously wounded.

Relatives of the boy killed, Mahmoud Ibrahim Karnawi, said he lived in Rahat with his parents - a divorced Palestinian woman who remarried an Israeli Arab.

Palestinian witnesses said he was shot in a gunfight that broke out as IDF troops approached the family's home in order to arrest his older half-brother, a wanted Islamic Jihad militant.

Neighbors said the boy was inside the home at the time of the shooting and was hit in the crossfire. Hospital officials in the nearby town of Tul Karm confirmed the death. The officials said Tariq Mulhem, an Islamic Jihad militant not related to the boy, was also killed.

Soon after the incident in the West Bank, Israel Defense Forces soldiers killed two armed Palestinians who shot at them near the Gaza-Israel border fence north of the Karni crossing. Ths Golani Brigade soldiers briefly crossed into the Gaza Strip, and shot and killed the two men. No soldiers were wounded in the incident, but a Border Police officer was lightly hurt during the West Bank arrest raid, and was evacuated for treatment.

The Islamic Jihad militant seriously injured during the raid was transferred by the IDF for medical treatment at an Israeli hospital.

The IDF said its forces came under fire during an operation, sparking an exchange of fire in which a gunman was killed and a second was wounded and arrested. The army said it was investigating whether the Israeli boy was killed by Palestinian or IDF fire.

The incident occurred when the Border Police force entered Kafr Saida in order to arrest Islamic Jihad militants, many of whom wore bulletproof vests and battled the force armed with Kalashnikov rifles.

The militant that was killed was on the list of wanted men, as was the man evacuated for treatment.

An IDF source from the Judea and Samaria division said after the operation, "It is important for us to operate in the villages in which wanted man are hiding, in order to thwart their plots at an early stage."

IDF sources also said that the force confiscated two AK-47 rifles and ammunition during the raid.
