Secondary school teachers set to strike on September 2
By Haaretz Service

Secondary School Teachers' Association chairman Ran Erez sent a letter Monday to the association?s members, in which he informed them that the school year for secondary schools will not open on the scheduled date of September 2.

Erez informed the teachers that despite the negotiations, the Finance Ministry ignored nearly all of the organization?s demands, including the demands for a salary increase and improved employment conditions.

Erez called the Finance Ministry?s offers insulting.

The association has demanded a 100 percent salary increase, pension rights, a reduction in the numbers of students per class, and an increase in school hours.

?In light of the Finance Ministry?s conduct, it is clear that it does not intend to invest anything in the education system,? wrote Erez, ?the conclusion is that without a struggle there is no chance that the Finance Ministry will come to its senses and provide the resources that this system desperately needs.?
