AJC-funded Israeli medical team to assist Peru earthquake victims

An Israeli medical team departed Monday for Pisco, Peru, in order to assist the victims of a devastating earthquake that rocked the city and the surrounding area last week.

According to IsraAID - The Israel Forum for International Humanitarian Aid, which dispatched the team - the six doctors and nurses will join forces with the local Jewish community in order to help the earthquake's victims.

The delegation is being funded by the American Jewish Committee.

The 8.0-magnitude earthquake killed over 500 people and left tens of thousands homeless.

On Friday, the Foreign Ministry gave the Peruvian government $20,000, earmarked for buying tents and blankets for those injured in the quake.
