By Amos Harel and Yoav Stern, Haaretz Correspondents and Agencies

Israeli troops shot dead one Palestinian and detained two others for questioning after the men allegedly tried to lay a bomb next to the Gaza border fence yesterday, an Israel Defense Forces spokesman said.

The man, Mahmoud Abid, 17, was the third Palestinian to be killed in IDF activity over the weekend.

The incident took place in the central Gaza Strip, south of the Karni border crossing.

Abid was a resident of the Bureij refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, Israel Radio reported. No militant groups claimed Abid, and Gaza hospital staff said he was wearing civilian clothes.

Earlier, soldiers detained five Palestinian men who had gotten across the heavily fortified Gaza border fence in order to seek work in Israel, the army said.

Meanwhile, in the West Bank, a Palestinian woman was wounded in clashes between IDF troops and Palestinian militants in a Nablus refugee camp, according to Palestinian reports.

The woman was at home when IDF fire struck her shoulder. She was treated at a hospital.

On Friday, IDF troops On Friday, IDF troops killed two Palestinians and wounded six others during a raid near the West Bank city of Jenin.

Palestinian security officials said a gun battle broke out between troops and local gunmen in the village of Kafr Dan. One gunman and a 16-year-old boy were killed.

"Several gunmen were identified during an activity against terror infrastructure. The troops fired at them and confirmed hitting them," and IDF spokesman said.

The Abu Amar Brigades, an armed group linked to Fatah, said the gunman killed was one of its leaders.

Meanwhile, troops arrested two Palestinian youths at the Hawara checkpoint, near Nablus. The youths were caught with three explosive devices, which IDF sappers destroyed.

A soldier was lightly wounded in that area when Palestinian militants threw a bomb at his unit while they on patrol in the Balata refugee camp.

On the southern front, three Qassam rockets struck the western Negev. One landed near the port city of Ashkelon. No injuries were reported.

Also, the IDF blew up a tunnel in the northern Gaza Strip, which army sources believe was intended to facilitate a large-scale attack in Israel. The Golani infantry brigade discovered the tunnel's mouth on Tuesday, 700 meters from the Gaza-Israel border, on the outskirts of the village Beit Lahia.
