IDF halts training in West Bank villages
By Amos Harel

The Israel Defense Forces will suspend all training activity in Arab villages in the West Bank, Military Advocate General Avichai Mendelblit said recently.

The decision was made following complaints by human-rights activists, who objected to the simulated overtaking of Arab villages by reservist combat soldiers.

The troops told activists that although no shots were fired, the activity alarmed the residents. The Yesh Din organization contacted the advocate general last March.

The activists noted there had been no need for the troops' presence in the villages and demanded that the army halt training there. However, Mendelblit refused to initiative a criminal investigation into the actions of the commanders who gave the order for the activity.

The organization argued their actions put civilians' lives at risk, but the advocate general concluded that the officers' orders were not criminal.
