Former chief justices aim to curb Beinisch-Friedmann rivalry
By Jonathan Lis, Haaretz Correspondent

Two former Supreme Court presidents, Meir Shamgar and Aharon Barak, met with Justice Minister Daniel Friedmann on Tuesday in efforts to settle an ongoing rivalry between Friedmann and current Supreme Court President Dorit Beinisch.

The 90 minute meeting, held at Friedmann's home, the two former presidents expressed their discontent with the constant confrontations between the two legal representatives, as well as the jarring media coverage that accompanies the public rivalry.

Sources reported that Barak and Shamgar announced their reservations regarding a series of reforms presented by Friedmann in recent months. The reforms, if approved, would be a blow to the authority of the Supreme Court president.

Barak and Friedmann are considered to be old friends, and Tuesday's meeting was described as friendly. The three participants in the meeting agreed amongst themselves not to leak the content of the conversation to the media.
