Two Sderot residents lightly wounded in Qassam attack

Two Sderot residents were lightly wounded Friday morning by Qassam rockets fired by Palestinian militants from the Gaza Strip.

Three Qassam rockets were fired into the western Negev. Two landed in Sderot, where one of them caused some damage to homes. The other landed in a kibbutz, and did not cause any damage.

The injured residents were taken to Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon.

Before dawn Friday, Israel Defense Forces troops shot and killed an Islamic Jihad leader in the West Bank city of Nablus, the militant group and the IDF said.

Palestinians said the soldiers entered the Old City of Nablus in a civilian vehicle and shot dead Riad Abu Adas, 34, the Islamic Jihad commander in Nablus. One of his associates was arrested.

An IDF spokesperson told The Associated Press that soldiers, who were disguised as Arabs, surrounded a house and demanded that the militant surrender. Instead, he tried to escape, at which point soldiers shot him.

Palestinian sources said Israel sent about 20 jeeps and a bulldozer into the city after the incident.
