Six people lightly injured in blaze that ripped through Carmiel building

Six people were lightly hurt Saturday night as they escaped a fire that ripped through a building in the Western Galilee city of Carmiel.

The blaze began when a gas canister exploded on the building's first floor on Morad Hagay Street.

Firefighters rushed to the scene, evacuated the people stuck in the building and put out the conflagration.

Earlier Saturday, a wild fire burnt through some 1,500 of Mediterranean shrub vegetation near Kafr Qassim. Six firefighting crews put out the fire using airplanes and Jewish National Fund members.

Firefighters prevented its spread to a pine tree forest and brought the fire under control towards the evening.
