Former Israel Defense Forces chief of staff Moshe Ya'alon has accused his successor - Dan Halutz, who led the army during the Second Lebanon War - of destroying the values of the IDF.

"Halutz brought a culture of corruption into the IDF," Ya'alon said in statements broadcast on Channel 10 television Thursday night. "He brought the spin doctors into the IDF. That would not have happened with me."

Halutz said Ya'alon's remarks were baseless, but declined to comment further.

Ya'alon also indirectly criticized Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and his predecessor, Ariel Sharon.

"If people understand that in order to succeed, they have to hook up with the son or the secretary, with Omri [Sharon] or Shula [Zaken, Olmert's former office manager], nobody wants to be in an army like that."

Ariel Sharon had refused to extend Ya'alon's appointment as chief of staff for a fourth year, as is the usual practice.
